i believe i'm leaning towards the guides right now. i've done a lot of splitsnowboarding and snoeshoeing to acces terrain up @ hurricane ridge. but i'd really like to get into some longer, possibly multi day tours. sounds like GaryJan has some experience in the areas i'd like to tour in. I am stoked to try out a touring setup next year... here's a short list of some trips i'd like to take:
7 lakes basin
wolf creek trail to whiskey bend
hurricane hill trail to black diamond road via the little river trail
hurricane ridge to obstruction point (and possibly on to deer park)
up the deer park road to overnite in a shelter
do you have any info you'd be willing to share about a ski trip to royal basin? i have never been there, but am planning to hike a recce trip up there this summer.
also, when would you suggest a time of year to attempt the sol duc trip up to the potholes? right now the sol duc road is open to the ranger station, but have you waited until later when the road is open all the way to the trailhead?
i am an avid hiker, and the thought of extending my backcountry season into the winter has me stoked!
