Parking for overnight trip to MT. Catherine? was created by snbdman
A Friend and I want to do an overnight trip up MT. Catherine and I was wondering where we can park his car for the overnight portion of the trip?
The Second question I have is about what route is the best. It seems like going the Hyak Route of climbing up the Northside of the resort and then crossing over the valley and ascending the North Ridge sounds like the easiest? But would love to hear the communities opinion.
Thanks

The summit has designated overnight parking for a fee.
www.summitatsnoqualmie.com/info/winter/transportation.asp
Their closest overnight parking area is at Summit Central -- But they run shuttles between the areas.
I think you can also park in the Gold Creek or Hyak sno-parks overnight -- the Hyak sno-park is attended on weekends (or at least it was earlier in the season) so you can verify with them.
I would use the old Nordic Pass route -- this is an ungroomed, but blue diamond marked ski trail that climbs through the forest between "Summit East" and Summit Central and passes by Hyak lake. The route starts from the north end of the "Summit East" parking lot, follows a plowed road (Snoqualmie Drive???) to where it switchbacks and then heads through the forest. The other way to start the route is from "Summit Central"'s Silver Fir base area -- ski up the "crossover" toward "Summit East" a little ways and then where the nordic pass route crosses the "crossover" trail turn right and follow it. This crossing is a little past the Hyak creek crossing, but it is probably bit hard to spot the blue diamonds from the "crossover" trail.

Thanks Randy.
Is there any other areas that you can park beside the Summit Central lot or the Gold Creek sno park?
After we make it to the top of Hyak should we take the Sunrise Outer loop trail to get across the clearcut and then camp there? From the clearcut should we head up past Frog lake and then up the valley between Radio Mtn and Mt. Catherine?
Thank for the help.

I would park at the Central lower lot aka the condo lot. You can park right below the condo and have less anxiety about a possible car prowl. I did this earlier this season when I spent a night in the warming hut at Grand Junction. You could probably do it by the condos at Hyak and be in better position to approach Catherine.

I've had good results following the right hand chair up to the road that is the edge of the ski area and following it up to the top. Don't take the road in the trees to the right at the top, continue to the clearing, you'll see the ski trail and a big sign. I've followed the ski trail southerly, until it turns to the left, should be good camping in that area.
