There has to be someone out there that can help me with this question. Being a woman, I tend to ski with my weight back more and I have found with the shorter skis I am falling back more. Does it help to move the bindings forward, and if so, how much? Any input here would be much appreciated..... :'(

As I understand it, women's skis have a mount point 1 cm forward because women's center of gravity tends to be a bit, um, behind men's.

That being said, the problem you speak of may not be alleviated by mounting your skis a bit or even a lot forward. Lots of people out there, men and women, ski with their weight too far back, and a forward mounting point won't help if you lean back and ride the tails when you get into trouble.

1 cm= roughly 3/8 "
yes womens skis are boot centerd marked 1Cm forward . Now here is the interesting part ski racers often prefer 1cm forward mounting to facilatate ski turn initiation. I believe this would go for women racers as well as well as men. Are your skis womens' models ? MY personal opinion after mounting all my own skis is that 1cm forward helps me. Maybe that help is only placebo but what the heck this hacker will take any help, placebo or real ! I vote for 1cm forward .

I have heard of this theory before about putting women's bindings forward, because, due to body structure, the body's center of gravity is further back.

However, my humble opinion:

- For all around skiing, I believe the skier should be centered over the skis.

- The reason of forward mounting for women is that they need more weight forward to get the skis to turn.  But mounting forward is simply a way to center the lady over the skis because her booty is hanging back too far... still trying to center on the skis.

- I believe that you are if you are falling backwards, then you are having a problem with skiing technique.   It is difficult to move from intermediate to advanced skiing, especially for steep and deep until you are willing to lean down the hill instead of back into the hill.
       - Planting the ski pole helps you put your weight a little forward to initiate the turn.
       -  Even though leaning down the hill may seem counter-intuitative, what really happens is that while your head is out over your skis, your butt is counter-balancing the other direction, leaving you pretty well centered on your skis.
        - A lot of balancing adjustments can be done with hand position.  If you put your hands up, your balance moves back.  If your hands are down low, then your balance is adjusted forward.

So.... If you are falling backwards, get your hands down and steer with your pole plant and keep your head pointed down the fall line.

If you look at some pics of good skiers on steep slopes... you will see their head way forward over the skis and facing downhill.  If you lean back into the hill, then you can't turn and you are pushing your edges out from under you, hence, the old sit back fall.

True, proper technique helps. all good tips Larry. It in fact is the primary aspect but moving the binding forward isn't detrimental and often very advantageous regardless of sex.  Just moving the binding forward 1cm is a committment and acknowledgement to more aggresive skiing. Along with your very good tips that ought to put us in the drivers seat.
My own personel mantra is" keep diving in to the pool"

I am not endorsing Jeannie Thoren but she does have some interesting theory and has helped quite a few women throughout the years.  www.jeanniethoren.com/

All of the comments by everyone here has merit and overall without skiing with you it would be difficult to say what the solution would be...

Good luck!
