Thankyou everyone for your input, that's whats so great about TAY, you ask a question and you get such good feedback! I have been demo-ing bc skis trying to find the right fit for me, my old AT skis are 174cm Shuksans. The recommendation at the demo shops has been anywhere from a 162 to 171cm, and some these have been women specific skis. Maybe it's the combo, shorter skis and too much junk in the trunk. Anyway, when I do find that right ski, and before the holes are drilled , I want to make the right decision on binding placement. Thanks again for all the good advice.

I agree with Larry that technique definitely will help you out but that is hard to say since I haven't seen you ski. Punching forward and being aggressive is one way to overcome this.
However I have tested (formally) the mounting positions of skis extensively.  Yes the correct and physiological way to say it is that women's center of gravity is in their hips/butt area and men's in their shoulders.  For this reason it is advantageous to mount the ski 2 cm forward of traditional mounting position.  The more forward will help you to initiate the tip of the ski which is what engages you into the turn.
If a ski is too stiff for you it will also be less forgiving and have the tendency to throw you in the back seat.
The shukshan is a great ski but needs to be commanded at all times, i.e. you need to have your shins engaged to the front of your boot.  Try the shuskann (women's version) if this is your spring touring ski.  I think the phat luv would be a great ski for you to try as well.
