Hayden, you seem to have set off a deluge of our wondrous pining for floppy, skinny skis with even floppier bindings. We all began that way years ago, but I'm here to tell you, man, that terminal delam was the best thing that ever happened to you. Run to the light! Set yourself up for enjoyment - not frustration. I've got multiple pairs of StupidLoops collecting dust on narrow skis. Get yourself a wide-waisted ski, snowboard crossover-man, and love the ride. This time of year especially it should be easy to find a good fat ski that you can put a strong cable binding on for a reasonable price.

Robie, how on earth can you being skiing anything else when you have Volkl Prestos, the all time favorite of true telemark afficionados, with Rivas, no less.  Of course you have those Voile releases on them, adding weight and a PITA; I pulled them my out of my foam-cored Prestos twice on Snorting Elk at Crystal and then had superloops remounted and then my stepson broke them in half catching air on hard snow.

For a real Tua story: I pressed my friends at Alpine Experience to get me one of the 12 pairs of "anniversary" releases of the new Tua Excalilbur Mito in the U.S. A beautiful ski whose cracked metal edges at the shovel (to provide easy, even flex) proved to be its undoing. I had them mounted with superloops, put them on my back and hiked up as far as McClure Rock, where we stopped for lunch. I stuch the tails in a ridge of snow and sat down to eat lunch. A gust of wind came out of nowhere and blew both skis over and side-by-side they headed down toward Golden Gate at warp speed (they had never been skied!); one diverged left and went over a cornice the other went straight, out of site. Regine skied and I booted down to find the left ski had impaled itself on the downside of the cornice (whew!) and a few minutes later a snowboarder came booting up with the other ski which caming gliding straight towards him, slowly. :-)
