Since the Hyak area is not operating for alpine the rest of the year they don't have a pressing need for the space.
Jack was there ever any official statment made by the summit on this?

The Alpental lots may be on forest service land, but they are leased by the ski area and the NWFS pass is only good outside of the ski season.
I was wrong. CNL is the taxpayer for the main lot.

They had a meeting at the lodge a few weeks ago and stated the lifts were officially closed the rest of this season, but will be open on weekends for nordic.
This summer Dino and Keechelus will be removed. The old Silver Fir triple chair will be installed taking the same path as the Dino from the lodge to the summit. The Keechelus double will be installed on the backside dumping off on the higher ground above where the dino unload currently sits. The dino chairs will be for sale also this summer after their removal.
Is this the information you were wondering about?

Nordic operations are still open Fri-Sun, though it's certainly not filling the lot. However, there is still "No Overnight Parking" signs posted around the lower lot and at the start of the season security made clear to all of us Hyak staff that there was NO longer overnight parking allowed at Hyak. I'd unfortunately have to say park there at your own risk (tows not vandals).Another idea would be to drop your supplies in the Alpental lot and leave your car in the Hyak parking lot and take the Shuttle back to Alpental. Since the Hyak area is not operating for alpine the rest of the year they don't have a pressing need for the space. Also, with the homes around the parking area at Hyak there is less chance for break-ins. People leave their vehicles at the Hyak lot overnight all the time (usually guests of residents).

I wouldn't park in the lower lot, or the main lot. You can park in the first lot at the 3-way stop. That is where visitors and locals park their cars, some for days at a time w/o any problems and the shuttle can pick you up right there. There is a lot of traffic and homes across the street to help scare off vandals. Rare to have any issues in the first lot unless your leaving valuables out in the open.
