I think RonJ handled this well with his gentle reminder of the photo guidelines in that thread. The poster is relatively new to TAY, and Ron used a light touch.

I think I actually agree with you on this point, it's that ligh touch and ability to understand the nuances of the situation that makes our existing moderators so good and why I would be unsuitable. The only nuance I understand is a two by four to the back of the head.

The inequality still bothers me though and as MattC says " there are rules.. and moderators get to enforce them ", should be changed to " there are guidelines and the moderators can subjectively choose when to enforce them or not even if at times in seems unfair." I love quotes so here's another, " who polices the policemen?"

My understanding is that the photo limit is not just to keep page-loading fast, but also to encourage posts that balance text and photo content. This helps to keep the information content high.

TGR is great, but they have really sh***y tr's. People just post an onslaught of photos. I feel as long as the story content/info is good quality, then let the "guidelines" be bent.

Well it their site and we are all guest here so I don't feel there is much more to be discussed. They can chooses to do or not do whatever they want. If someone does not like it they can stop using the site and start their own and moderate it the way they see fit.

Make it totally black and white.  No "guidelines", only 3 photos per thread (200kb/ea) and six thumbnails period.   You want to post more, leave TAY and move to TGR, or spend time gluing together several small photos into a 200kb collage.  How about some smart software developer send Charles a script that will scrape his site and email him when a thread exceeds three photos, to simplify the moderator chore?

The folks who love ski porn are already surfing telemarktips, and TGR as well as TAY to make sure they don't miss anything.  The worry of TAY losing posters who want to display their important photos is no problem, they will just move to TGR and you can view them there.

Oh yeah, we surfers are missing an excellent powder day in the backcountry right now.   Almost forgot the kernel of wheat among all the chaff.

End of rant.

You'd make a perfect moderator Silas having been around the block and gained much wisdom in the process and you've got time now!

RonJ should offer the job to you!
I think you should be drafted.
