I hope this doesn't violate copyright. I'd put it under fair use. Besides, it's largely an advertisement for Skiing magazine, so if they complain they would have to sick the marmots on themselves. Now go buy this month's issue.

"Life is short. Ski year-round."

I've been an avid skier since I was little. I joined the military eight years ago, and tried to time my vacations so I could deploy all summer and ski all winter. While deployed this summer, doctors discovered I had a cogenital heart defect that sent me into cardiac arrest and required installing a pacemaker. Sitting in a hospital in Dubai, I released life isn't long enough to get your fill of skiing in winter alone. With my doctor's blessing, I bought a pair of beat-up alpine touring skis, and since returning home, I've skied more this summer than I did all winter long. Skiing is a monthly reminder that life short. Get outside and enjoy it.

...

That sucks, Jimmy. The part about your heart, that is. The part about getting into alpine touring doesn't suck at all. Good on ya. For your active dedication to the sport, we're awarding you these custom K2 powder skis with a Skiing magazine/Pabst Blue Ribbon top sheet. Enjoy. -- Ed

I will admit I was a longtime reader of Skiing and just allowed my subscription to lapse as I feel the content is non-existent and is nothing but the marketing of fashion, real estate, and whatever else sells, under the guise of "skiing".

Good work on getting some skis out of them though, your story is a good one and probably made them a bit more money. I look forward to watching you rip in them!

As cool as those skis look, I do think the PBR powder skis are a little more, um, modern. They're the widest skis I've ever owned (108 waist), and I'm looking forward to trying 'em out.

Thoughts on bindings? I'm thinking it's a shame to restrict those babies to resorts, but I can't see myself using something that wide as my regular BC ski. I was thinking of Barons, because I've heard they're durable enough for the resort, but I could throw them into AT mode if I got the chance.

....good call going with at AT binder that can take a resort boot for your fattest ski.... i've had fritschis on my fattest pair of skis for the past two seasons and am swapping them out for dukes this season.
