addenda with question:

So, Crystal is closing Sunday. Alpental is open Thursday through Sunday through cinco de Mayo, or so I hear. I've not used all my 10 days at the summit on my full-on Crystal pass. Does this mean I won't be able to use my pass to ski at Alpy since Crystal will be closed? Their disclaimers all state that both areas must be open to use those 10 days.

Now that was my escape clause. While Crystal was closed I was going to ski Alpy with my 10 days. Damm that fine print!

If they won't let me use my 10 days at Aply while Crystal is closed then I take it all back.Sorry Oftpiste and Snow Bell, I had a moment of capitalist empathy. :-[ :-[Boyne sucks!

What about the inverse ... can I use any of my Alpental Crystal days during the May re-opening?

Mt 2 cents, the season changes on September 1st. A season pass is for a season. Charging your pass holders to keep skiing is lame.

Not likely since your pass also probably expires April 13th. Yup. Lame. The revenue they'd lose by honoring their paying customers passes for a couple of days must be staggering.

After skiing New England areas in springtime using carefully constructed ribbons of snow to connect to the lifts, I was blown away at how all the areas here close when there's still great skiing. This pass policy, lame though it is, strikes me as part of that picture. So campaign to get all your pals to head out for some late skiing this year, and maybe the story will start to change...

(or maybe not)

How would this topic change if Xtal or others spun the lifts in the summer months for mountain bikers/scenic tours? I know that Schweitzer "re-opens" in June for said activities and a 07/08 pass covers all the riding you want. It would not seem that there is an expiration date for such passes (maybe Sept.) and they should be good this spring (except they aren't reopening).

I know that this is only hypothetical, since Xtal et. al do not offer these activities, but it does make me wonder whether they don't re-open multi-use ski areas in late spring for a reason...

Ok... just throwing my 2 measly pennies in the mix.

P.S. 3 weeks to graduation, then westside riding for life! Woohoo!
