Guide Tipping was created by jdclimber
I am headed up to Canada for a hut trip. It will be catered, with a guide, no heli for a week.
I will be carrying in some of the food (15 lbs tops) when we go in and when we move huts.
What is the formula for appropriate tipping?

A good rule of of thumb is 10-20 USD per day that you ski. Day in and out if no sking occurs you can relax. If you are with a group, discuss and you can pool together and give it at the last dinner if the trip is well run. It is a service industry job so judge his performance at the end and you can upgrade the tip accordingly.

Sounds like my trip to the Trophy Mt.s near Wells Gray Park two years ago.If you get the same guides (or equivalent) you will be getting your money's worth. So how much would you tip for a $100.00 meal that lasted for less than 2 hours? You will be getting 3 good meals, plus a lot of personal services for however many days that you are there.I am headed up to Canada for a hut trip. Having worked for tips it was usual to get about a hundred dollars a day total (retired in 2000) for just the skiing part. I would tip more if it included evening lectures or entertainment. I always tip the guides or instructors what I liked to get when I was working. I know how much it means to them. I have skied with the most amazing guide in France who couldn't afford to have decent gloves, even though she

Telemon, you figured that one out quick.
Thank you all for the insight. I have a pretty good idea of how much cash to carry now.
