Both!! Each has a special allure. And the key to storm days on BC hut trips is picking the right hut so you don't end up cooped up with farting friends - you gotta be out enjoying extensive tree skiing!! We were massively stormed on in the first week of February this year, and though it meant we missed out on some cool alpine terrain we got to spy on the first 1.5 days up there, the trip was AWESOME!! I've heard rumor of one or two hut weeks in the Selkirks that were skunked by rain or by nasty sun crust, but have yet to hit such a week in I think 8 trips - losing count... I haven't ever met a "client" who had such an experience - only guides who get out just about every other week, and even they've described such events as rare. The "can't fly in/out for 1-3 days" thing Lowell mentions sounds a bit more common, but again I have yet to experience this joy. I did get to explore the tunnel they're building under Switzerland to connect Paris to Milan on a storm day, but it started clearing and we got out for a nice 3K vf ski in the afternoon.

I love all three pics - makes me look forward to my next Euro trip!

Can you guess which is which (ok, at least one is a gimme)?

What a guy. Get's skunked in Europe, as far as snow goes, so he spend his vacation volunteering in a senior center. You are inspiration, Silas.

But, about that young lady you are seen all over Europe with. Your daughter, right? Ya, sure. She is a nice looking gal, but she don't look nothin' like you, buddy!

...   where you wake up face to face with your tent partner and WAY too close - Yikes! I've done that with Silas and what an experience it is.

Thanks for the tip.  I never suspected that of Silas, but you never know, do you!

My vote if you can afford it is BOTH. Euroski trips have a charm all their own (nice photo 1 silas) food and bevies are great, snow can be iffy and off-piste is generally all yours with liberal access rules. But as Tom said, if you pick the right hut - amazing tree skiing on crappy vis days makes everything OK.

:) :)

As for the "senior center", check out Kurt Diemberger's book "Summits and Secrets" for details on Wolfi's climbing in the Alps in the 1950's. With his two titanium hips, he is now better than ever, headed to climb and maybe ski Cerro San Lorenzo in Patagonia in November at age 74. He is my idol, now that Tim is slowing down.... heh, heh? Tim may make me regret that comment on our next tour!
