Greg is spot on ! Thanks Greg for adding more precision to this . Instead of a ice pick I used a drywall screw and lightly tapped on it

I have mounted five pairs of skiis with the template from Dawson's site. I quit using the jig as it is not as accurate. I have a friend with a jig who no longer uses it for the same reasons. Get jiggy if you like but it will not come out as well as the template. Just my opinion.

I'm curious what problems you've had with a jig. I've mounted both ways and the jig seems like a no-brainer to me.

I'd be interested in taking it off his hands. My primary aversion to the jig has always been $$$, but if the price is right . . .

I've always found my Dynafit jig to be accurate as far as lining up the boot properly, although I had to modify the toe jaw to get the length exactly spot on (trivial issue for Comfort or Vertical ST/FT, but critical for regular TLT IV/Tech/Speed/Classic). The problem was that the Dynafit jig simply took the toe jaw part from an alpine downhill jig (i.e., exactly the same as on one of my downhill jigs), and therefore at AT toe would not be seated properly, causing the jig to overestimate the length (if trying to set it up automatically without any further measurements).
Anyway, a couple minutes of dremmeling solved that problem. The jig is both accurate, and also very fast. (The last couple Dynafit mounts I did took only about 20 minutes, including tapping all holes.)
Here are some mounting tips I came up with from before I used a jig:

The folded-paper method also works well for locating the center of the ski. Plus TGR posters have been posting files for combined toe & heel templates for different bsl.
