I'm a Sierra Club leader taking folks on strenuous exploratory back country trips.
I had planned to do the Simcoes Mtn, a relatively easy 15 miles this weekend (March 31-April 2nd). However, I recently found out that the Simcoes snowpack has melted.
So, I am looking for advice on a nice 15-20 mile BC route 3 hours from Portland.
Thanks for your thought

How about the Sisters Wilderness, W of Bend, accessed via the highway to Mt. Bachelor?

Thanks Telemack
Thats a great idea. Unfortunately, already did it this year. Here's a multimedia presentation of the 38 mile 3 day trip. www.sustainablesteps.com/trips/twistedsistersrev4.wmv
Enjoy.

2. There was a recent TR on a tour up to Colchuck Lake and Asgard Pass. Haven't been up in the winter myself.

Thank you. I found the report: www.turns-all-year.com/skiing_snowboardi...dex.php?topic=6530.01. Get ready to sweat.

Looks like it may be prudent to climb Aasgard Pass rather than ski down as I originally planned due to potential icy conditions.
Advice appreciated. Although I have taken courses in avalanche safety, getting out into these bigger mtns is humbling.
Cheers

In the upper lakes area -- there aren't any big slopes, but there are lot of nice touring and smaller slopes. I have particularly fond memories of skiing the slopes on the east side of Prusik Pass and above Shield lake.
