Volcanogrrl...Yukon Jack is the best backcountry firewater. If you don't want others weasing your juice then I recomend cherry brandy. This survived in the Enchantments for five days with alchoholic firefighters last year. Although it went down like the Titanic when everything else was gone.

Volcanogirl,  I do several trips to the Wallowas each year.  If you're doing the guided trip, (I'm assuming with Connelly Brown and his crew) ear plugs, down or synthetic booties, and an ipod and/or a book will provide you with some much needed "down" time.  Also, the previous stated hygiene/preventive medicine items are helpfull. I usually just take some "Airborne" and it boost my immune system sufficiently.  Regardless whether it's with Connelly's outfit (WAH) or Roger's outfit (Wingridge Tours) it can be common for your tentmates to over-stoke the fire making the sleep tent an oven at night (this usually passes after the first night or two) so either educating your sleep mates ahead of time or dressing very lightly (underwear or short/t-short) will make your sleep more restful.  Bailey's, hot chocolate and a bit of Mint Extract (found in the spice section of the grocery store) makes a tasty after hours drink.  You can buy a plastic flask to put the Bailey's in, carry a small bottle of Mint and take packets of hot chocolate.  When we were at the Wing Ridge huts last year they had a huge canister of hot chocolate and I didn't even use my packets.  Oh yeah,  take every advantage of the sauna hut in the evening.  It's amazing how much it rejuvinates your muscles for the next day.
I'm going out there this weekend but only doing day trips out of Joseph.  Have a great trip!

go to this website for lots of Wallowa-specific beta, including gear lists and helpful photos:

www.wallowahuts.com/

By this time of year you won't need quite as much clothing as they list.

Volcanogirl,
I talked with Nathan from WAH this morning at breakfast and he said they provide all 3 meals - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Happy hour starts at 5pm. They even carried in a 5 gallon keg of beer. They will provide you with a pillowcase and sleeping bag liner. The bags they have at the huts are good to -10 degrees. Pretty much all you have to carry is your usual daypack plus snacks (and Baileys) and maybe some down booties for around camp. Though it has been a mild winter I would carry sufficient clothing. You can always leave it in the hut during the day if you don't need it. Last year we did a hut trip the first week of April and it snowed everyday. It wasn't that cold but it was nice to have one set of clothes to wear while the other set was drying out.
Oh yeah. It snowed 5-6 inches Sat. night, more today and looks like it will snow the next 10 days. You should have an epic trip.

I just wanted to pass along the notion that there are in fact (at least) two outfits that offer guided trips in the Wallowas. In addition to WAH, there's Wing Ridge which offers both guided and unguided hut trips. Looks like Wing Ridge has a different meal plan than WAH. Just didn't want you to go hungry if you're not touring with WAH, Volcanogrrl (it should go w/o saying to trust the info from your tour outfitter rather than what you read here, but...) :).

Have fun down there. It's pretty terrain. :)
