Avy forecasts are highly dependent on weather forecasts. Have you noticed how often the meteorologists don't quite get it right?

Washington also has a lot of microclimates that can change things in a hurry: east vs. west, convergence zone, cold north air from Frasier River Valley...
Edit: Lowell basically said this. And I'm no avy pro. More like slab-surfing Joe.

thanks for the thoughts - and I thought the weather forecast was a gimmik so we'd have to check the weather every day!

FWIW: Weds night @ Summit Central -- I noted a layer of frost had formed on the trees during the day from the freezing fog the smothered Snoq. pass during the day Weds. Something to look out for once we get new snow.

jdclimber...couldn't have said it better myself. The avy forecast is a place to start, then once you are out in the backcountry you are constantly gathering data to come up with stability on any given slope.
Taking a level-1 avy course is the quickest, and best way to get the knowledge one needs to stay safe...then take a level-2 course.
And then practice safe skiing.
