In case many of you are not aware, the Forest Service does not want to support the Avalanche Center beginning in 2007. The community will need to be pro-active to maintain what is a very important planning and safety service to all of us. Attending the Snowbash and joining "Friends" would be a very good first step. Funding will need to be a combination of public and private for this to work in the future. Unless major benefactors could be found, it is unrealistic to expect private funding to be all that significant from a budget standpoint; so that leaves public funding. But for public funding (likely at the state level) to work we will need to demonstrate that there is widespread support for NWAC and we will need to become pro-active. That is why participation at the Snowbash and especially joining "Friends" is so important.

Gary, I'd love to support NWAC this winter but the requested donation is a little steep for my financial status as a part-time guide/college student. Will I be turned away if I can only donate $10-15?
