PR/communication on the part of the Friends isn't exactly great. I joined last year and haven't heard a whisper from them, with the exception of the offer for automatic emails concerning avalanche warnings and a bumper sticker. I had no idea a meeting was being held, what activities are offered (wasn't there a visit to NWAC at aome point?), financials, or other news/info. I do have a warm fuzzy feeling having joined and contributed, but some communication or indication of organization would be welcome.

Those are good points, Clem. Some of these were discussed at the meeting. Friends is...well friends...a group of volunteers tring to help out so that we can keep the avalanche center. There was talk (and I am not on the board) that Friends may head towards hiring one full time employee to work on the areas that don't seem to get done.
In a way, it has to not be about us..each of us...but about making sure we still have an avalanche center. And to do that, the best way is to demonstrate that we have stakeholder constituents who will fight in the legislative process to maintain funding. Now by fight, it might mean letter writing at appropriate times, or it might just mean being part of a roster of constituents that by their own volume demonstrate community need.
