Hi David,
Definitely not sure -- I've tuned mine that way, so they have a 1:1 now, if they didn't before. I've thought about increasing the side bevel to help them hold on hardpack, that's for sure, but I've not found their original bevel information. I got them as a birthday present on a deep discount, so they didn't come with any "pedigree"... Off to check the interweb.
EDIT: You're quite correct David -- they come stock with a 1:3. Hmmm... perhaps I should resurrect it to give Scotsman some empirical evidence.

I have decided upon a 1 deg base bevel and 2deg edge bevel and I'' let you know if I feel any difference.(I doubt my skill level will enable me to tell ,but we'll see)
Thanks for the advice.

Chris,
Don't worry about it. I know you will be out when the first snow covers the rocks so you will end up with the variable rock bevel which works great for all snow conditions. Good luck. I plan to knock the rust off the edges soon and start counting the days until the hut trip.

Mike , you are right. 1 deg or1 .2567 deg it doesn't matter as I'll trash my tune the first day out.
I too am looking forward to our Wallowa yurt trip and am whipping the family into shape and getting much abuse because of it! I've got my wife carrying a pack when she takes the dog for his daily walk and I've been slipping bigger weights in without her knowledge. She says I'm a looney tune :
