Base and Edge angles for my ski tune. was created by Scotsman
I am about to get my beloved G3 reverends stone ground and tuned for the season.
I know it is a personal choice, but I was wondering what the general advice would be regarding base and edge angles.

I think G3 recommends a 1 deg base bevel and 1 deg edge bevel but I have read that even a 2or 3 deg base bevel can be advantageous for certain conditions.

anybody got any advice??
:)

I've been very happy with the 1 degree base/edge that was factory on both my Tickets and Teledaddies and have maintained that in my own tunings. I don't know that I'm good enough to really tell the difference, but I don't think I'd add more base bevel, especially on something as wide as the Reverends -- it would make it just *that* much more difficult to get a good edge set in firm conditions.

You could add a little more side bevel maybe, which might help edge hold on ice/hardpack, but it seems to me that it's a difference only a racer is going to notice. That may be you though! I'd be curious to hear how they skied if you do change the factory tune.

I'm no racer beleive me! ???
However they are squirrely on hard pack due to their width and I think the increased edge bevel might help! thanks ;D

Anything that'll help to get the edges in on those fatties -- I definitely have to work hard to get the teledaddies over. Perhaps I'll tweak the side bevel this winter and see if I notice anything... Good luck!

Just say no to hard pack, Chris.

Seriously, speaking as one who grew up skiing on skinny skis, all contemporary "wider" skis are somewhat of a handful on hard snow, cat tracks are especially fun. If you add more base bevel, though, you'll lose responsiveness on an already slow edge-to-edge plank. I suggest leaving them at 1 degree/1 degree and trying to always keep the skis on edge on the groomed (make very slight turns continously).

Speaking of cat tracks, just be glad you're not on a snowboard!

Marcus- are you sure that the Teledaddies have a 1/1 bevel? I am pretty sure that all Atomics are set by the factory at 1/3 (base/side). I am positive that this is the case for their alpine skis, and I thought it was so for the teles as well. I will need to recheck my TM:x's!
