Sun Valley, Idaho- BC beta was created by Scotsman
My company is taking some senior managers to Sun Valley next weekend for a " strategic planning meeting"<br>( the last one was at the Red Lion at Seatac and we told them if they wanted any decent strategic planning done, they'd better give up the goods and ditch the Seatac venue ; they capitulated.D)<br>Anyhoo, never been, so does any TAY'er know what the BC access is like from the ski area and whatthe goods are like????<br>Two of us are experienced and are taking our BC gear.<br>Thanks in advance.<br>Chris<br>

Alot of people do backcountry runs down to near Hailey or Warm Springs Creek to the north. The only problem with alot of the BC this time of year that anything at the lower elevations and the high ridges with southern exposers tends to melt out. If you have transportation I would recomend going up to Galena Summit about 20 miles north of town. The area is popular with backcountry skiers and the snowpack up there is often better. I have been up there alot in the spring and although the runs tend to be short, there is often great corn snow.

I've never had the chance to ski at Galena but I've also heard that its worth the short trip from Ketchum. <br><br>I have gotten lots of great route info and advice from The Elephant's Perch in Ketchum. They helped me find some good quick tours closer to town and I'm sure they'd have lots of ideas on where to go up towards Galena.<br><br>

Try Mushroom ridge. Trailhead is 2.2 miles upvalley from Galena summit lodge, on a gradual right hand turn. Look for tracks on the right side of the road. The ridge has nice 30-35 degree 600-700 ft shots off either side and a very easy exit skiing out the valley to the road, when you drop off the ridge to the north. 2 peaks above offer bowl type skiing. There is tree skiing off the ridge and partway up the peak. We got advice regarding bc skiing from the bc ski shop in Ketchem-- can't remember the name, but a good bunch of people.

2 legit climbing/BC ski shops in town. 1) elephants perch (mentioned above) and 2) Backwoods Mtn Sports.<br><br>

While I haven't done it before, the place to go if you want more epic BC is the Sawtooth Range. I've been climbing there but never skiing. It's a longer drive and definitely more committing.
