Maybe this has been reported elsewhere on TAY, but in case not:

MEN'S RACE
Place Bib Name Time
1 41 Traslin, Andy 1:44.24
2 37 Billimoria Zahan 1:44.57
3 54 Grove Kevin 1:47.20
4 44 Coldiron, Scott 1:48.31
5 43 Traslin, Mike 1:51.01
6 62 Davis Seth 1:53.53
7 67 Faban, Stan 1:54.13
8 75 Ferber, Garth 1:56.04

Way to go Garth! That is *very impressive*. Could you be persuaded to post a little personal report of the event? You know, complete details of your training program, your diet, (special I assume), metabolic suppliments etc.
V02(max) off the chart I suppose.

Yes, Garth rocked at the rando rally - we lined up together and chatted at the start, but he dropped me pretty quickly once the race started. I lost more ground when I took a wrong turn (down instead of up on Rollen) and he was already halfway up Sessel when I finished my first lap (he waved, though). I'm thinking of growing some long legs like his for next year.

I've been curious about the mix of local versus non-local skiers at these rallies. In past years, the top racing class finishers have typically been folks who travel around and do several rallies per season. I don't know the guys who finished ahead of Garth. Anybody know where they're from?

Way to go, Garth!

The Traslins are from West Vancouver, BC and Billimoria is from Driggs, ID. Many of the top competitors who've done the LifeLink rando circuit in past years (Chris Kroger, Cary Smith, Steve Romeo, Pete Swenson, Andrew McLean, Greg Hill, Monique Merrill, Jeannie Wall) were in Europe getting ready to race in the World Championships - the US fielded a team for the first time and they did pretty well.

Here's a link to the results:

(the individual event was cancelled when two avalanches hit the racers about 2/3 of the way through the event) - see video here: www.zippyvideos.com/7214637844121186/200...avalanche_broadband/
The footage is pretty dramatic, with several skiers going for a ride just a few meters from already buried racers and course workers trying to dig them out with their hands . . .

Hmmm, "world ski mountaineering championships" and no one had a shovel?? Interesting. Thanks for the link.

I think tomorrow is international women's day...let's not forget the amazing performance of the girls at that race...the first one would have finished third in the men's category!!:

1 35 Kingsley Karen 1:46.41
2 53 Grove Molly 2:03.17
3 25 Wheeler Marge 2:08.01

Greg: thx for posting the video, I am always amazed how you are always on top of ski related news around the world!
Great to see that everyone made it out OK. Recent huge amounts of new snow have resulted in many avalanche fatalities in Europe...
