I was getting ready to write some kind of personal attack against the person who was furious that one day two years ago he had to wait for the race to clear International before he could go skiing, but then I saw Charles "posting guidelines". Be civil and respectful, avoid personal attacks - that is the norm here;

With that in mind, I would just like to state that I think the randonee race at Alpental is a great idea. Whilst it would be neat to put it in the BC, one of the reasons it is configured is so that the lift served skiers can watch the race. This year the race course was kept open to downhill skiers. It was definitly a little scary seeing intermediate snowboarders sliding down towards us as we climbed international. I did hear that some "furious" people had raised a big stink about half of their morning being ruined two years ago, and that the route this year was designed to have minimal effect on people that might get furious if they had to have a portion of the terrain closed off to them. I was in the lift line two years ago for chair two, waiting for the race to clear and I noticed that most in line were very supportive of the race. It was really neat to watch the transition at the base of chair two. Hopefully the race will continue to be even more successful in ensuing years!

Thank you kayak for not attacking me.
Alpental's size is as Lowell said the main issue. Looking at the race schedule for the year, Alpental looks to be much smaller than every other event site. How about having it at Crystal? Touring is very enjoyable, but I don't think many people were actually interested in watching the race. You saying the course 'was kept open' to downhill skiers is false. They wouldn't let you into international until about noon, and the BC not until 1:00. With conditions how they were, we often do every run all day in the BC. If the race took place every weekend I could understand racers couldn't have it on week days; too many days to try to take off work. Since many Seattle area racers just do the local race, I'm sure they could arrange one day off to do it. Two years ago I don't recall any supportive people waiting in that chair 2 line. Remember them yelling at the last few racers to hurry it up? I still want to provoke no attacks, just explaining part of why many were upset.

Two years ago, they did keep International closed to the public until the racers were through. This year, there was lots of non-race traffic on 'Nash even on the first descent (around 9:15 AM).

Two years ago, I was among the restless crowd waiting to ski (not really, I amused myself by skinning up and taking pictures), this year I solved the problem by doing the race.

You have read my mind Greg. I think I and a couple bros will enter the thing next year if we can. As I previously said, I love a good race. I'm participating in the mountain to sound race and have done the B'ham Ski to sea several times. So, I appoligize for producing 'beef' when not really needed towards my paddle-dog brethren. I'm sorry senior Khyak. Like the June 25th approaching mountain to sound event, it's great to have an excuse to train yourself into good form.

Take care eveyone!!
