Wow, who could have thought such a small piece of engineering could be so sweet.

I've been using Fritishis for years now and finally bought my first pair of Dynafit Comfort bindings. I had them mounted (minus the brakes) on a pair of Rossi B4's. Some might think the skis are rather heavy, but i enjoy the performance they offer. I'll pull out the scale later to find out how much they weigh.

I took them out for the first time last night at Mount Seymour. The touring trails at Seymour are great for figuring out new gear....cause you can easily ski down to the car should you have some problems. Keep in mind that I didn't have time to experiment with them beforehand as I picked them up at the mounting shop on the way.

As I skinned along the flats near the ski area I popped out of the binding about 10 times. I finally realized that I was skinning in downhill mode (which doesn't lock the toe in). It was smooth sailings after that. Using the heel riser requires some flexibility but I love how it works. This binding is marvel of engineering, so simple, yet so sweet.

Once at the top I took in the views of the city lights and popped into downhill mode. On the ski down I was amazed how little slop/play there was. I thought there would be some wiggle but they felt bomber.

Maybe next year I'll get them mounted on a light pair of skis. Goode 95's or Karhu Jak BC's.

I've been converted...atleast for now.

I have skied about 10 days, all lift served (I know) in the same rig as yours except for the skis. I mounted the Dynafits on Goode Pash 80s. Each ski and binding weighed in at just aver 3lbs 14 ounces.

I had no problems with the bindings at all at higher speeds and moderately aggressive amplitude (though I'm not a jumper), and loved the way the ultra-light set-up skied in all conditions including cold hardpack and 16 inches of Montana pow.

The Goodes take a little getting used to as they are so incredibly stiff torsionally, but once you get it figured out you may be spoiled for life as I've never had such a ripping carver ski which performed as well in deeper and softer snow too. This may be the closest to a one ski quiver I've ever had. I couldn't believe how heavy my B-3's with Naxos (not to mention the other pure alpine set ups) felt on the end of my legs after skiing the Goode/Dynafit/Megaride combo. I'm tempted to do a fat ski ultra-light setup as well with another pair of Goodes or maybe some DP's. Maybe next year or.....?

I'm looking forward to an opportunity to try it all out in touring mode too.

Gear is fun.

Offpiste, i can imagine that the Goode's take some getting used to, being so light. I would like to demo a pair of the 95's. Its too bad that they are soooooo darn expensive.

Toby, you can try em anytime...but you really should get some mounted on those old 97mm Jak BC's you've got...thats what Tim's has and everyone knows he rips on them

I don't find the lightness a problem in the Goodes, though a heavier (say over 200-225?) guy might. I was wary of this as many have written about it being a disadvantage to the ski. As with many skis designed for skiers with higher skill levels or better technique, they will cut loose on you if you don't stay in the driver's seat. Get your weight back in harder snow and they will indeed chatter - perhaps earlier than a slalom or GS stick would, but as long as you ride 'em, they stay pretty well anchored.

What took getting used to for me was that with the tail being so torsionally stiff, every turn I went into was a full carve until the very end even if I wasn't planning it that way. Sometimes you want the tail to slide around a little for control or a shorter turn, and the way these are built I had to learn how to make that happen.

Yeah, the expense was a handful but I justified it by selling off a couple of other pairs of skis.

BTW, I found the leashes on the Dynafits to be a pretty major hassle and will likely convert to brakes very shortly. I also had a little beefing up done to the megarides including a drive plate which made tham a little stiffer but didn't seem to impact the nice walkability.

Did I mention I think gear is fun?

I'm interested in details on the Megaride mod as I have them too.

I'll start a Dynafit leash thread because yes they are a major hassle and I'm interested in brainstorming non-brakes alternatives

drC
