So how often do you ski at the ski resort versus the backcountry? I notice that I've tended to get less and less over the years. Nowadays 6-10 out of 50 is average for skiing on piste. I'd like to get more either way, but I also like to bike, fish, kayak, hike, etc. Having only weekends off makes for busy resorts too, and the backcountry is more of an escape. So, let's hear it?

You pay $300 to ski for six days? That's more expensive than just buying day passes. Sucka! ;)

I don't have the money to ski lifts. 100% backcountry for me.

It depends on the year and the particular month.

During a good snow year like this one, I lift ski more than I backcountry ski during the winter months (January-March). In non-winter months (Nov-Dec, Apr-July), I backcountry ski more than I lift ski.

Overall, the ratio for me is probably about 60-40 (more backcountry days). I count any time on skis as a "ski day", whether it's a mountaineering trip or skiing the bunny slopes with my son.

I would more or less mirror Lowell's answer. I tend to ski more days on lifts in the mid-winter months simply because I avoid the BC when it's really dumping like it has been lately. I race Cityleague Tuesday nights up at Alpental, so that's one guaranteed lift day per week. Then on the weekends I usually try to split it; one day BC and one day lifts.
I typically start my ski-day counter in September. So far, here's my breakdown:
Lift served: 26/39=67%
Touring: 13/39=33%
By the end of the ski year, (August, in my case) the percentage swings heavier towards Touring days ending up close to 50/50 for the year.
