Yeah... And that's what's called an "experienced" backcountry skier. Not that I am one myself... But someone who defines experience by the times he has outrun avalanches is lucky, not experienced. And if he has the experience to know a slope will avalanche and still skis it, well... I believe in the evolution of species. At least, don't brag about it after your smarter partner saved your life.

drC
I remember something like this happening years ago at Crystal. The story went - I think - as follows: a local was skiing out Right Angle when he saw some gear in the snow, next to a tree; a pair of skis as I remember. There was a hat in the story somewhere too. He thought to himself 'wow, I'll scarf some free stuff'. Got over to the tree and started pulling on the skis, which turned out to be attached to a skier, upside down in the tree well, blue, not breathing. He pulled the guy out, and lo and behold, it was his best friend, another well known Crystal local! Larry

I've heard this one, but I wasn't involved. You may be thinking of an incident in which I was buried in a slide in what is sometimes referred to as "Honey Hole" (far skier's right under Powder Bowl) and dug out by one of my best friends . . . I think several patrollers went up afterward to check out the crown and debris path.
