Thanks! Both informative and entertaining. A great resource.

Several donations recently appeared all at once, and now I see why. I had missed this thread bump. Thank you to those who recently made a donation!
My goal is still to keep the web site free of (external) advertising. This seems important to me, but perhaps it is time to conduct a survey of the membership and see how widely this view is held.
If the site is to remain free of ads, then there has to be some revenue coming in from other sources to cover unavoidable expenses for the site (though I try to be very frugal with expenses). Currently there are three ways in which revenue is produced for the site: donations, Zazzle t-shirt purchases, and TAY CD-ROM purchases. I have updated the forum page header so that links to each of these are easier to find (line 5 in the center info box).
Some people have made sizable donations to the site (and some of them repeatedly), and I've got no problem with that, but overall very few site users make a donation. I know this is pretty much a standard situation, but still it would be more gratifying to see a lot more people donating smaller amounts.
If you have considered making a donation, here's something to consider: purchase a copy of Turns All Year CD-ROM. This is like making a ~$25 donation but getting something back for doing so. If the CD-ROM is not something you would use, then give it to a friend who would find it useful. The sale of a CD-ROM generates significantly more revenue for TAY than the purchase of a comparably priced Zazzle shirt.

I bought the CD and would have paid more on Pay-Pal as an xtra donation, but wasn't given the option. Is there a way to add that? Thanks for the site and all the work Charles. It really is one of the more remarkable net resources!

Hi Boot - I think the answer to your question is no, there is not a way to add an extra field for a donation on the PayPal CD purchase page, because that page is set up as a "single-item" purchase. I believe I'd have to be using a shopping cart system to enable what you are asking about, and that's a significant step up in complexity. So for now anyway, using PayPal for the CD and for donations will have to be separate transactions.
