Yes, Indeed these annoying floaters can be annoying in the flattest of light. Being that our conscious attention is selective, at first these floaters may seem distracting, but overtime it seems that if I devote my attention to making that next turn, I'm not not aware of the floaters.

Good point about selective consciousness Donnelly. I've never had them distract when skiing, but skinning and reading are a different story.

Too much caffiene can increase them.

Black spots appearing in your vison usually means your heart rate is too high and it's time to slow down.

I get floaters too.
I'm told it has to do with the amount of fiber in my diet.

Sometimes I see stars in flat light (just like the ones you see when you hit your head). Anyone know what that means?

A bit off topic, but....

Randy, could you describe the black spots in more detail? I've been trying to figure out the ultimate cause. My current guess is that beyond a certain heart rate, there is not enough time between heart contractions for the atria to fill. The pump is not primed adequately, so cardiac output falls, or does not increase as it should with increasing metabolic demands. Anyone have any thoughts about this? ( Jim C? :) )

If this is true, the next question is why this particular symptom? Why not some other neurologic manifestation? Do others get different symptoms?

Larry

I don't know the exact cause in medical terms -- Could be lack of 02 , too much CO2 or too much lactate.
