first of all, how long is the drive from seattle?

It's about 2.5 hours if you go I5-I405-167-Puyallup-Eatonville-Rainier

If I were going to drive down, what time should I leave in order to be back to the car and on the road by dark?

I would say 2.5 hours before sunset.

How long (in hours) is the trip up?

About 4+ depending on how fit you are.
