Sooo . . . if a simple and relatively inexpensive tool like a bicycle, in the hands of a moderately fit individual, can solve the problems of traffic congestion, vehicle-related polution, expensive gasoline, road rage, lack of monorail/light rail system, no time for exercise and job-related stress . . . why isn't everyone doing it?<br><br>Or is a group of people willing to hike for hours to enjoy a few minutes of sliding down a mountain the wrong bunch to ask?<br><br>Are those Led Zep songs in the Cadillac ads really that compelling?<br><br>So far the only people at work I've been able to persuade are some of the dishwashers, none of whom can hold a drivers' license anyway due to DUI's . . .<br><br>

<br><br>They are simply weak of spirit, their souls annexed by scourgeful urbanization. If only someone could remind them that sucess is meaningless without happiness...

When gas hits $10 gallon more people will ride their bikes. But that's not going to happen for a while...

<br>Our culture is based on the automobile. And if nothing shakes you out of it, you'll avoid the unknown, and never buy the bike and ride it. I think most people simply don't consider it.<br><br>And most people prefer to ski down the mountain, so maybe we're just freaks? ;D<br><br>

<br><br>Admittedly, my dress style has changed. I have a closet-full of t-shirts and swimming trunks. It is great apparel for biking and working in a lab. <br><br>Maybe I don't smell like flowers and have a perfectly gelled hairdo, but being in shape is attractive too. If a day comes along that I have to look preened for something, I can either take the bus, or freshen up at work (there are even showers).
