My bikes won't take standard fenders, but I found a seat-post clip-on rear spray guard down at Recycled, and ordered some waterproof-looking booties.

GRIPE--Why are most booties made like wetsuits? I'm not diving, and I certainly don't need the insulation. I just need a raincoat for my shoes. Couldn't believe how hard it was to find something. I mail-ordered some thin shiny-looking aero-booties that hopefully will work. Paul, I bet you could sew some decent ghoes.

I'm a big fan of reflective material. It's all over my helmet and sewn onto my backpack. A biker covered in reflective material is as visible or even more so than one with a headlight. If you have dedicated bike shoes then you can glue reflective tape on those too, and your feet become strobes. Use the cagers' evil powers against them, I say.

I have found that the only way to maximize safety is not only to assume that you are invisible to drivers, but that they in fact subconsciously want to kill you.

My bike commute is usually the best part of my day.

I'd hate to have to deal with traffic every day. As soon as I moved to seattle six years ago I started bike commuting and bike from ballard every day...far far better way to start ones day than road raging in gridlock.

Did get taken out by a car four years ago, hit and run (and the cops never tracked them down), trip to the ER, the whole nine yards....at least The Stranger was accomodating with printing my I, Anonymous rant in their paper :)

www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=8397

Labor day week, I made a point of going Petro-free West Seattle to Kirkland. I even went without the 520 bus assist.

Typically I ride to work 2 to 5 days per week, but shut it down completely Dec - Jan. Mercer Island has too many spots with headlights in your face for really dark riding in my opinion. I guess I'm more into riding roads that aren't completely dark and all you need is a bunch of flashing lights on you. I'm lucky in that our office is on a marina, and has a shower, or a lake to swim in ;^) after riding in.

I got into Track cycling this summer, at www.marymoorvelodrome.org . That really tore up the commuting this summer and brought out the car alot more than normal, but it was fun. The couple of times that I got out skiing on weeks after racing, I was totally tired out.

You wanna talk about accidents, just visit www.ghostcycle.org/ Very eerie site.
You guys might have a few accidents to report yourselves.
I've been pretty lucky so far.

Ride safe,
gusk
That explains why you always seem to be trying to kill the car first... ;)

Waterproof booties might be a fun project. I'll make em orange.
