Because it is snowing right now at about 14k, and the TR's have languished, it would be mildly entertaining to read about trips where we have taken our skis when we shouldn't have. You know that feeling, the one where you are shouldering your skis up a long flat trail with flowers blooming, berries weighing down branches, and the smell of needles and devil's club swarming with bugs; that feeling as you prepare to take a left into the swamp up a misbegotten valley just for a chance of reaching snow. When you get there, your thoughts aren't on the return, but on the reward.

My question to all of you, how big was that reward in comparison to the distance and vertical you traveled?

I like the Kam's JOM, but I think an addition of distance would also be interesting.

For instance, 1000-ft of skiing/5000-ft of climbing = 20% over 10 miles.

I'll add one later. I actually do have to work now

Flett in August: 500ft of sliding / 3000ft of ascending = 17% over 12 miles (round trip).

lost track of how many times I've done this....2000ft booting up from Paradise on a rainy October day through whiteout early winter conditions...100ft of sliding on the wind-blasted boilerplate of the toe of the muir snowfield...maybe another two turns on the 12" of new covering rocks (and gouging my bases with every turn)..then hiking back down to the car, soaked to the core but happy that winter is on its way.

I imagine there are others who've had a similar trip.

winter cannot arrive soon enough....
