And the rest of the early morning story…or part of it anyway. Figured with the big dump that today would be a cluster muck (could have used and F) of conditions based on previous “big” dumps at Crystal. So left extra extra early, lots of nuking snow driving up, various trees down across 410 covering ¾ of the road, managed to miss most of the branches at the last second in the snow storm, noticed the first expected clue about conditions in a dark Greenwater (no power…hhhmmm), got to the Blvd around 10th car back with the road closed while they plowed and removed down trees – only took an hour for that wait, but at least I was in front of the lineup. Pulled into the A lot, good, walk up to the lodge, opps, no power, dark and locked up (various employees saying cant let anyone in with no power????), changed in a dark basement hole, got into the third cluster mess of a line for CHex (lineup was almost as bad as a European lineup) since the not many lift opps were around to set anything up early. CHex was running, but at 9am some management types came out and said it would be 3 HOURS till anything opened AFTER the power was reconnected…hhhmm…guess I’ll bail, got a Awesome run from CHex to my truck, then spent an hour in traffic at the D lot and managed to finally drive through Greenwater after a 2+ hour stop and go trip – OUCH! 410 had multiple closed spots – DOT lot in Greenwater and the last one at Mud Mountain. Pretty painful all in all. Tomorrow should be Awesome and I’ll probably suffer the try again, with a lot of other pent up folks.
Other – no soup report (so sad), A lot full, C lot full, cars driving up while everyone else was driving down, lots of folks digging out there motorhomes and cars – remember to throw the snow shovel into the truck just in case. Power line from Crystal station to the base was broken somewhere. PSE was stuck in traffic going up while I was leaving.
Would have been a big crowd today.

We were in the mess. Martin turned us around at the Blvd. How was CHEX running with no power and no generator? And how early were you at the BLVD?

Lifts have their own diesel engines and that's why they can run even when electrical power is down.
We left Seattle at 5:45 and were able to park just at the bottom of the A lot.

...well, we did manage to get in 5 runs off chinook today...it was free skiing and the lodge never opened (although Wi-Fi worked well)...the snow was definitely of the pacific northwest type and easily a couple of skiable feet in places --- folks spent time looking for their skis in the concrete...glad I had my rocker S7s with me...on our last run patrol let us break a little trail out to lower E as long as we "did not hike uphill"...by 11:30 a.m. the chair stopped loading and that was that...the afternoon drive out to enumclaw was fast and easy...we will see what tuesday brings -- very unclear if 6 will be back in the game any time soon (as it apparently derailed on sunday causing the chair to stop for 2 hours with the customers on them needing to be roped down)...

Thanks. I didn't realize 6 derailed. My brother (another former Crystal patroller like me) was up there Sunday and helped them evacuate it. I just asked my boss for tomorrow off. Wish we would have pressed on to at least ski Chinook. Going to leave at 5 tomorrow and hope for the best. If anyone has any intel, please let me know! It looks like they still don't have power.
