Crystal - 03/13/13

Ouch what a nasty day! Pull into a way to far back in the A lot parking space at 8:30 – complain a bunch get a couple of rows closer space (end result today – maybe 4 rows of cars in the free part of A and not really anybody in the pay lot – oh well pretty much normal), next nasty jumping into an empty bucket at 8:46 – double ouch. Next nasty – should I suffer sunny goggle lenses for awhile or go for foggy lenses? I decided to suffer sunny conditions, dang it almost was sunny for the first hour and after that pretty much in and out variable vis conditions – go for the big open spaces sometimes – bad vis go for OuterFerks or the Pits. What looked like death cookies early were actually pretty easy soft lumps – AfterShocks happy early, Coombas after 11am worked mighty fine also. Had a few runs on the front side – only negative was my wax, off piste a little to sticky with not enough folks on the slopes. Next nasty no body on the slopes – A lot could not get full by the time we left (which was way to early dang it but the weather was changing and the precip was starting to fall). Next most nasty today – no HC today ? What? Why? Broken?- not! Somebody is paying way to much attention to the weather forecast (or maybe not the one I’ve been lookin at – double dang it!). No guarantees about what might be running any given day and today was one of those kinda days – PB looked really big to bad I’m to old and lazy to suffer hiking – should maybe work out with those Fireman guys!

Other – Soup was Ched Brocc – the taste I got was pretty good, less than 20 people in CB lodge at noon – excluding the employees. Rumor is maybe some Chick Noodle sometime over the next couple of days.

Especially when you consider that Crystal advertises that their lifts run at night! Here is a 6:28 PM screen capture of Crystal's lift status. This tells me that 5 lifts are running on the hill. Clearly, there is a problem.

On the other hand it's not hard to find on the same website the operating hours and work out that the lifts are actually closed! Not rocket science.

One could also argue it's useful when checking the conditions at 6.28PM after work to know what was actually running today. Helps figure out what they might do tomorrow.

Not much of an issue for me either, except I dont always pay attention to all that little detail about what might or might not or maybe might have been open or... oh well...oh darn, still did not expect to have to care about HC not being open on a day with no winds, no ice, no body around to cut up my lines...so sad, dang. But still had a lot of fun today, always do.

HC being closed on a mid-week day with no wind is like a Crystal local's equivalent of the Paradise road being closed by NPS. We should be getting our tinfoil hats on and writing letters to our Senators or endlessly writing about our frustration on TAY......wait a minute....maybe we already are.

You should start a" HC chair closed again? " thread and a FB page so we can all participate.
I think all your complaining about HC is going to knock you out of the running for this year's Dirtbag King!

Other than they announced two days ago that Six, Northway, and the Jib Park would be closed wednesday and thursday.

Not that random closures or openings are against Crystal's rules either. And don't get me started on the light boards.....
