This was the best spring day I've skied in a long time. The 8 am opening was as sparse as I saw all year. Green valley skied O.K. but you could tell the snow was light. On to PB.I was the first person in( always a thrill) and was able to ski 5 laps without crossing a track, but that really doesn't cover it.You could ski anywhere in powder bowl and ski pow for a long time , cable chute was blower.......It was very sunny, but the snow was still great...Southback was _________ all that and more in full sun I skied something damage and DFF rocked. Then chair 6 closed no one was shocked.Let down yeah, surprised no . From there straight to the Ca$h run and 4 awesome laps back there finished out a day that powder was skied till 2:30 in full sun . Had beer from the take-out window at the summit house in a great new lounge chair looking at Rainier...............It's been a while since I skied a big powder day in full sun and perfect spring temps................................Thank you to everyone at Crystal mt. who made this possible and congratulations on the amazing timing of your re-open for spring

Ditto, ditto, big day big sun, light crowd, lucky I was not sitting on HC for a hour like some friends – very sad. Cold pow early – I like that 8am start, especially since most folks haven’t noticed yet, nice heavy cascade spring crud during the afternoon and even some skied out bumps on Lower E. Hoping for at least another big soft slush bucket day tomorrow…even with the expected increase in the crowd. Great day been waiting for a day like this since last spring. ddk

Finally, some spring weather. Some winter snow to start with and awesome snow in Southback/Avie Basin (
Video:
). (Any input on Go-Pro washout with big sun on snow?) Unfortunately, sat on C6 for an hour as it crapped out. Six has been a POS this year and today I was one of the wounded. Broken plywood seats, cramped feet and legs... it took an hour till my feet stopped tingling. Insult to injury, Crystal gave new passes to day ticket buyers and a screw you to season pass holders. After that, we found some soft and consolidated snow on Elk-Snork to Kelly's Gap/Sluiceway/ Lower E that was great. Great afternoon runs mostly erased to very real pain of C6. The Frontside was OK, but very unconsolidated/sloppy by afternoon. Will be better tomorrow after an overnight freeze and re-thaw.

includes a major C6 Rant.

so people hate 6 ......sure it's a weak link..... but some people hope that 6 has a major break down next year ....Crystal then becomes a "Little area that rocks" with a killer skin track to never ending pow.Nobody would want this to a permanent arrangement, but one season as a touring resort wouldn't be that bad......Some might say that while north is lost forever, South placed just a little further away, just for part of one season, would turn back the clock, to a time before fat/rocker skis. And hey it would also allow all those people that have never taken a single step uphill on their dukes to ski lines they have only dreamed of........................it could happen
