I heard that there were a record amount of tickets clipped for skiers crossing into closed areas.
Interested to hear the numbers, which I heard was 100, but not confirmed, I went to the Patrol Blog and there were no numbers, but a pretty direct good thread on closures, pretty serious.
I have to admit that there are solid closures where I never cross and ropes. And then there ropelines that are just there to support gate closures which I cross if I don't want to spend 15 minutes hiking to the gate opening.
I know I can get called on the this, but won't risk my pass for the other stuff.
There are lots of grey areas, but you better know your stuff if called on it or a pass or ticket may be clipped.
Crystal is not like Alpental where rope crossing is the norm. I've seen some closed areas at Alpental, especially near Elevator that have a berm under the rope! So if your visiting Crystal the patrol is cool if your following the rules, but they wear the scissors in full view.
