Silver Fir has indeed been a refuge - lift lines short, terrain interesting, new snow lasted a bit longer & parking usually available. Think $4.5M investment, think promotion to utilitize same - we can say goodbye to one of the last sweet anomalies at the Summit. Gerry H
Unfortunately, the exact point I was driving at.

This is just my opinion though.

Monday through Friday, not during the weekend school/family hordes (though many Sunday AM's in the late season too).OK, not sure when most of you ski Silver Fir but it is not always the quiet haven you speak of. I am a Powderpigs and have had to walk back to the Pig Pen with kids when the lift either broke down or had a lift line that was 30 minutes plus and we needed to get back for lunch or the end of lessons. I love skiing over there and only see a new chair as an asset. It may get more crowded at first but I think the speed/ improved loading/ect. of the chair will off set the volume.
This is just my opinion though.
I'm afraid that those who think that simply a faster chair is going to be an all around improvement or great thing, can't then understand what some of us are lamenting about.

Having a quad will increase capacity only 25%, but I suppose having a new motor will allow the chair to run full speed all the time and detached lifts load a bit quicker than fixed grip, so I'd guess the new chair might effectively carry 40% more skiers.
A bigger impact on the Silver Fir skiing experience might from increased grooming to match the new lift. I'd guess that 80% of Silver Fir skiers follow the groomed runs "Outback" or "Hog Wild" -- I wouldn't expect too much impact on runs like "Inspiration" or in the trees between the runs.
But if the Summit does some "ground grooming" over the summer and uses a winchcat to apply a blanket of cordoroy to the runs -- it will be the end of an era.
