I thought snowmobilers aren't allowed to go to the top after a certain date, which I think is long passed.
Someone wrote in another thread that the fine was $100 for climbing above 4800' without a permit.
There was easily 3-4' of snow in the trees at 2700'
I would never condone breaking the rules, but fortunately we did not see any rangers on patrol.

Wow- that was a harrowing experience to say the least! It reminded me of the John Muir story where he got stuck on the summit of Shasta and spent the night lying next to a fumarole.
