YEs!!!!
That washout/mother of all potholes is crazy
wta.org has recent trip reports from Ellinor.
author=Chamois link=topic=35335.msg144804#msg144804 date=1452022357]I don't get the point of these vague arm-waving reports. I was out, went skiing. Great. It's a useful conditions report f...
How are they enforcing this or disseminating information? Haven't seen this mentioned anywhere else. Is Alpental road closed?
I did a loop today up to Summerland (almost completely bare highway trail until it gets into the open in the basin), Panhandle Gap, then over to Sarvant Glacier and Owhyhigh Lakes. Snow was a bit stic...
Awesome! I love it when a planned approach goes easier than you expect/fear, and you just nail it.
There was cloudy cover on Friday night, so the snow didn't get a good freeze. Might be ok with a bunch of clear nights? On the plus side, the snow from Cascade Pass down to the trailhead was maybe...
Some pics!
That's a lot of halos!
Where does the normal route up to the lookout go? Up to the notch east of the peak then drop down and go up the SE gully? Or is there an easier way (on snow)?Lots of bugs there this evening! They were...
Hmm, how bad is it?Never been to Pilchuck, and it sounds like it would make a nice dusk patrol... a change from Alpental
author=CascadeClimber link=topic=28515.msg120048#msg120048 date=1368574917]I got an email today asking me to fill out a survey about my 'characteristics' and attitudes toward leave no trace....
I think the snow on those slabby rocks breaks up like that every year, but I'm not sure I've ever seen it quite that deep! Crazy...
Pics??
Might today's rain clean the pollen off?
Wow!We were there on Thursday, and took a route similar to Lowell's from last week. Only saw one other person.
Lots of people have had their eye on that one. Nicely planned and executed!I agree with the major style points taking that extra powder lap! ;D
I'm pretty sure I've "researched" that Beowulf couloir on maps/photos and wrote it off in my mind as unskiable. So, uh... nice work, looked super burly! Great trip report!
author=hedonaut link=topic=27909.msg117418#msg117418 date=1363291388]yeah Phil, I think that's the way to go if sun-warmed slopes are not a concern. For us it was partly that, and partly my lack...
Awesome.Regarding your approach, can't you cross the 6700ft notch to west of the Triad? From there it's easy to scoot around to the top of Kumquat. (Maybe you were trying to stay off of sout...
It has a similar shape to Magic Mtn/Yawning Glacier! (Same general layout, with couloirs, cols, basins in the same places).
author=John Morrow link=topic=27649.msg116238#msg116238 date=1361814198]Has anybody else found good conditions on that ridge before, or mostly ski the basin?JBeen up the Bow a couple of times. We skie...
Looks like some pucker factor!
Looks like the Kendall Pk couloirs?
Nice!Your times are interesting. When we did it, it only took a little more than 3 hours for the approach, but more than 6 hours to climb the couloir! I think we stayed on the east side of the Napeequ...
Really beautiful! Thanks for the report.
Funny, I was just thinking about Black Hole while touring yesterday... thought it would be a great day for it, and that someone should be out doing it. And you were! Hope to see some pics...
We were up there today, in the bowl north of the north bowl of Thunder. Beautiful cold sunny day, but the wind has had its way with the snow out of the trees, at least where we were. Variable crust. S...
fyi, we were there on July 6, and a lot of high-clearance vehicles had made it all the way to Cold Springs.
