The gain-to-pain ratio is so much more subjective than my 50-50 ratio for hiking vs skiing. For someone like The Rolfs who is willing to carry 4,000 vertical feet to ski a 1,000 vert, the G2P ratio is...
author=cumulus link=topic=38371.msg155490#msg155490 date=1493331991]I think what toddball may be trying to say is thanks for making Snoqualmie look so good! There is no eight mile road. You just driv...
I thought a few people would weigh-in with their own anecdotes of racing the clock, or being beholden to some other stricture that made for a day of stoopidity. Anyone?
Lots of fun tree skiing along this route. Unfortunately I did a bad job of pulling out the camera at the best times.
Nice effort all. Looked like a beautiful day, though maybe warmer than ideal?
Those COOP skis look awesome. How do I get a pair?
Chester was awfully stoic about it all -- which made it hard to believe that the damage was as bad as it was.He said the kick turns hurt, but only after learning that his leg was broken did I suppose...
No snowmobiles are needed now. Originally when the highway closes for the winter, it's gated on the east side just east of Silver Star Creek (around milepost 171). As the snow deepens during the...
Phil, I got a chuckle from your your Watt-splitting.
Last week while skiing Stormy Mountain the same road was powder coated on the margin, it was easy to shed speed. Truthfully, the ice and breakable crust can make a boring road pretty darn exciting.
Beautiful picture of Stuart. Here's one more looking your way and one more looking north from our Entiat perch.
John, I'm impressed you remember that ill-fated trip. I've worked hard to forget.Good2Go, The Entiat Valley seems destined to remain little skied. The snowpack to access the Devils Backbone...
Was wondering what sufferfest you might be working on given our good snow conditions here in Central WA. Now I know. As always, a great trip report.
Disappointing? People complain that time flies and days are short. Good skiing accelerates the loss of time. But carrying heavy packs saddled with skis through brush and over deadfall makes time crawl....
The slopes below Dome and Half Moon form the headwaters of Cedar Creek. Dome actually reminded me of the Elephant's Perch in the Sawtooth Wilderness of Idaho. The Elephant's Perch is a few t...
Very cool, Mike. Fortunately, my kids have been forbidden from reading TYA and only have access to smut so they'll never find out what good parents are like.
Thanks for the encouragement and advice from other grizzled skiers who have already graduated to my stage of financial being. Jamie, you'll be happy to know that I sewed up a few holes in the hee...
Gorgeous. The pictures make me want to revisit. My only shot at Snowking was an aborted attempt nearly half a lifetime ago. I no longer remember what our plan was, but it was apparently a bad plan bec...
Dan, Sorry to miss the tour around Ingalls Peak/Lake with you all. Sounded like a good one. Norseman, good point... I think... what was it you were getting at?
I envy you those 11 years, Griff. Enjoy 'em!
Amar, Thanks for that snow-shadowing bit. Interesting to see such dramatic differences on peaks of the same height during the same tour.
We thought of you on this tour. Every time we took off the skis we debated whether we should 'Tack' 'em or Pack 'em. Tom nearly sliced a jugular on the final steep bushwhack...
Nice! Agree with all the video praise. Especially impressive in the context of a long day.
Even in monotone conditions it IS gorgeous country. A blue-sky day at the end of the first week in October would be pretty special.
Hefeweisen, thanks for the excellent course setting. We admired the way you cut high around around Edna and kept the track on a steady climb without any lost elevation. We were jealous of you having a...
If you're talking about the first batch of pictures (the scenic), the peak behind Tom is Cape Horn with Ladies Pass down in the low spot between the summit and Tom. Grindstone is behind Cape Horn...
Were you skiing any of the homemade boards? How did they perform?
We missed not having you along, Jamie and wondered how you were doing on Rainier as we looked your way from the summit (see photo). As you're probably aware, I overstated the travel vs. turning e...
Enjoyed your pics of Mastiff, Kenji. Did you get any sense of whether you could have ascended Mastiff via the SE ridge this year? There's a pinch spot along the ridge at 6,100 feet that is usuall...
I'm glad I was home with a banged up knee. Efficient travel, mountains covered with fresh snow, some powder turns...it's way overrated. A reason to be on the couch, a bag of Tim's aweso...
