Anyone know if the route from the top into upper international still goes (without any rock band to jump)
We also found very enjoyable conditions in Nisqually chute at about 1:30 pm - not nearly as sticky as higher on the snowfield. We found a pair of splitboard skins on the way down - dropped betwe...
I skinned up up lower I and about halfway up upper I, but booted the rest of upper I when the skinning got too sketchy. Even at 9AM Sunday, it was warm enough that steep sidehill skinning was a...
Thanks much for the report. I've been in that area before and fooled myself that it was safe because of tree anchoring. Now I know better, and I hope I'll remember the lesson.
Awesome. Especially the detail of the cow manure smell. Shouldn't this site support scratch-n-sniff trip reports?
The runs on the back side toward the lake are definitely shorter than a week ago, but still enjoyable. I found the longest runs and nicest conditions far to skier's left.
Skiing off the back side was very nice. But the melting seems to be about 2 weeks earlier than last year. It was great to see Silas filling all of his usual roles in the Silver Peak clan:...
The crankshaft was to put in the sock so you could beat up anybody who tried to steal your Bud Light!
We all see that 3rd picture and say "I've done that." It's like that Pemco "skis in the rain guy" ad. But this is "walks uphill to ski in the rain guy&qu...
Thanks for the photo, Silas. I'm sure it's the first time that a New Iberia (Louisiana) High School Yellow Jackets cap has graced the pages of TAY.
Thanks for the conditions report - and especially for the "glissades of shame" phrase. I'm sure I'll be borrowing that.
We chose the thrashing option for the exit and it wasn't that bad (more on the amusing side than the suffering side). We did walk the last 100 feet of the PCT back to the road, but could th...
Thanks for the report. Did you notice if it's still skiable down to nisqually bridge - or is that done for the year?
I was there with Dave M. This is the perfect window - melted out enough for a short approach but enough snow on the back side for a continuous run down toward the lake.
Thanks for the helpful report. Did you come back out through the inbounds or down onto the valley trail. If you came out through the trail, how was the coverage there?
We brought the fat skis, so even the lower mountain was pretty enjoyable when you kept the speed up and stayed in the top few inches. Much nicer skiing than last Sunday!
And it always sucks at Alpental, especially outside the area. Nothing to see here. Just move along.
Wow! I haven't been up there in 3 weeks, and I wouldn't have expected any skiing would be left. I might have to return this weekend. Thanks.
Good idea with the bike shuttle! Gave me the thought - If I brought four bikes, I could get four laps without having to ferry the bike back down over and over! Laziness is the mother of in...
Thanks. I was hoping to hear news from sunrise. How do the sourdough chutes look?
I just wanted to know "Does the snow still go to the bridge?" And (as usual) Amar delivers what those inquiring minds want to know.
I might not need that second cup of coffee. But I might need a diaper change! That looks poop-your-pants steep from the photos alone.
I think we saw you heading down as we were at source lake heading up to pineapple pass. Pineapple basin skinned very nicely at 10 and skied very nicely at about 11:15.
Thanks for the (as usual) informative and inspiring report. Does it still look skiable to the Nisqually bridge?
Zach and I skied that chute to skier's right last June - but not on purpose. We hit a cloud deck at about 8000 feet and ended up one chute too far west. But it went, and we now call i...
What about this one that Amar posted back in January:http://www.turns-all-year.com/skiing_snowboarding/trip_reports/index.php?topic=23286.0- Very close to Seattle- Known only to locals- Sees very few...
I count six trip reports from Silas this month and it's only the 15th! What's the all-time record for trip reports in August?
Nice to meet you up there, Silas. Conditions are surprisingly good for August. The entry is wide, runnels in the chute are smaller than usual. Should be nice skiing there for at leas...
We followed your tracks out to the bridge about 3PM. Those last few hundred yards of scrambling and bushwhacking were a suffer-fest (at least for us).
"fairly enjoy-able if you are not too picky about the quality"Good rule for living, that.
