I went up the Squak to Sherman peak yesterday. It was hot, and the snow was bad for downhill skiing! But the skinning was very easy. Parking is at 2800' where nearly continuous snow starts, about 3 miles from the Shreiber's trailhead. It will be a while before you can drive further. The road is a bunch of snowmobile bumps. Easy travel through the forest directly towards the Squak glacier. The glacier is well-covered including the main crux crevasse at 8800'. We felt no need to rope up. Above 9k we noticed some evidence of fresh snow, maybe 1-2". The snow was fairly sticky for the descent, and I don't think being earlier would have helped much. Still, it was a fun day, helped by our low expectations. I think it will take a few weeks and some consolidation to be ready for prime time.
