With the warm weather and transitioning snowpack, Steve, Sally, Westy and I chose to forgo any real ski objectives and just camp somewhere nice. So we went up Snowking and camped just beneath the summit.

The road is falling apart more year and year, with one bridge tilted over at a 45 degree angle. Consistent snow for skinning starts around 3k. We stayed high near Found Peak on the traverse to Cyclone Lake, which definitely is the way to go. Done correctly, this route stays in trees much of the way, has virtually no overhead hazard, and minimal avalanche hazard. It was perfect for a weekend like this.

Gorgeous pictures!

At the risk of sounding like a total boomer/dad, please oh please if you go back there just drop down and cross the stream and ascend the far bank rather than use a rotting bridge for a photo op. It's faster and way safer.
