September '07 turns: once is enough, but twice is nice ;D
After bagging September turns last weekend near Paradise, I couldnt wait to get back to those wonderful late summer sun cups. :)
Curious to explore some terrain new to us, Skip and I headed up to Van Trump Park via ;). Not to be dissauded we continued hiking up and, with a bit of scouting, found some hidden snow stashes high above the meadows of Van Trump Park. Three consecutive snow ribbons offered a mix of sun craters followed by suprisingly good September corn for a total of about 550 vertical feet of skiing (actually quite high on the Joy-O-Meter for September standards: JOM = 550 vertical feet skied / 4,000 vertical feet hiked = 13%!!!).
The marine cloud layer remained below us until we returned to treeline. Shortly thereafter we crossed paths with TAYer "Teleskichica" and family on their way to the top of Comet Falls on an afternoon hike.
Another fun September outing with more skiing than expected! And congrats to Skip on bagging year #5 (60 consecutive months) of turns-all-year!
Trip pics are posted here.

Nice pics and good to hear some other TAYers taking advantage of the BEAUTIFUL sept. weekend!
Whoa. I was over on Pyramid Peak on Labor day and was remarking on how totally gone the Van Trump "glaciers" were already then, & how dry the hike up to Hazard would be. Way to scratch out some turns!
Nice photos Chris, and way to knock out TAY year 5 Skip :D
Nice to see you on the trail!! Those patches looked pretty good. :D
And great pictures. We actually never saw the top of the falls ourselves. It looked like a torrential stream from heaven itself. Very cool.
