Mt. Rainier, Pebble Creek area
Tardy TR, but conditions now may be about the same. Don, Brad, RonL and I headed up last Sunday. The road opening was delayed because they shifted staff to resume searching for the missing UW professor. The forecast snow stayed north, and previous rain and cold temps made for icy conditions. Microspikes were very useful; those without were slipping, and a couple of other people took sliding falls. Almost everyone turned around at the first steep bit above Pebble, and so did we. Skidding, slaloming shark fins, and various survival turns were the order of the day. Poor conditions, but brilliant sun and great company!
