In hopes of finding some after-work corn on a quick ski outing, Allyson and I departed the Hyak (Summit East) parking lot at ~6:30 in the evening sun.  The base area is melting-out quick with some large bare patches, but the rest of the route to the top of the ski area still has good coverage (medium-size suncups near the base, less sun-cupped near the top).  The shaded slopes were already starting to refreeze, but were still soft enough for good turns.  We were rewarded with brilliant evening sunlight and an excellent corn snow harvest on the upper few hundred feet of the descent, continuing the fun turns down the shaded slopes back to the base area (only 1 quick stream crossing near the bottom). Not bad at all for ~1,000 vertical feet of turns and 1 hour car-to-car! :)
Nice!  is that a new pack, Cass?

Cass - it looks like the AT binding on your right ski broke OR are you returning from the "Dark Side"?

Sweet.
Who needs to pack when there is corn to be harvested? ;)
Nice tele turns, too.

I'm still split between the 'sides'  ;) ("switch hitting" between AT and tele) which is fun for variety.

Skip-  observant eye buddy!  The pack is newer (since January), and is far more comfortable than the old daypack; I guess for some reason or another I haven't used it on the trips we've both been on since then.

yes, it was a fabulous evenin', and i sure am digging this njr weather (no jacket required).

plus, great to get a jom of nearly 100% (except maybe for the stream crossing).  spring skiing's the best!

Nice turns you two.  Allyson did you leave the BBQ at home, it was kind of fun on the way down from the Ski Fest, when you caught a little air and had that great "Barbie Q" rattle, shake, shake goin on  :D.

yes i agree it was fun to ski with the bbq, however, i still had a little 'rattle, shake, shake' goin on near the bottom when the suncups tried to bite my ankles. ;)
