Had a nice outing via west side sled to Porcupine creek. From mile post 134 (above Ross LK), it's a quick sled trip (about 17 miles) to Porcupine which still has a slightly lower than normal snow pack. The highway is now easily travelled via sled due to some early maintenance provided by DOT snow/debris removal crew. There's only about 30" at the MP134 parking area.
Conditions on both North and South facing aspects were prime....and the only other signs of life were that of the NC Heli Ski Chopper. Some wind affect at ridge lines, but conditions were a welcome change from the instability recently experienced in the Baker Backcountry.
There's two more weekends of sled assisted skiing on highway 20 before the DOT crews start to get busy....go get it while the gettin' is good.
