Our esteemed webmaster invited seven of us to join him in celebrating his birthday at Silver Peak today.  We were able to drive within a couple hundred yards of Windy Pass and skin continuous snow from there, four skiers were ahead of us, and half a dozen followed our group.  The rain this week has done a good job of consolidating the snow, so before noon we had good corn; later we found an inch or two of slush atop the firm snow and descending became more grabby.  The usual early June Mountaineers snow skills weekend had about 20 attendees camping on the knoll in the north basin.   On the slopes the sun was hot, and there was a nice breeze on the ridgecrest.
Happy Birthday!

A great day Silas, thanks for the cupcakes!!

Happy Birthday Marcus!  And thanks for the Silver beta, looks like still enough snow on the west slope for a ski down toward Annette.  Now if this rain here in Roslyn would just stop with enough time to get up there today.  We had it in mind and time is running out!

Looks like below 6000 feet we may actually have some firm corn  finally!

Thanks for the fun day and the cupcakes.  Here is the birthday boy with the birthday cupcakes.

edit: TAY didn't like my picasa image url, so I'm replacing it with a link to the photo page.

Looks like a festive day out.

It was still quite fun up there today - we managed to mostly dodge the raindrops, and the snow nevery got very mushy - just nice true corn, and never grabby. There was just enough in the way of dents left from your bootpacking yesterday so that climbing the west slope today was pretty casual, though long, and that's good!!
