WOW, another sunny day in the Central Cascades.  Rob and I left the parking lot at 10am and expected to see more skiers. But the hikers far outnumbered the snow sliders.  The recent rain increased the walk distance from the patio to 100 vertical feet to continuous snow.  Once on the first plateau the snow pack continues to be plentiful for ascent/descents in most directions.  We skinned up to the top of Gunmount and decided to enjoy the snow before it became too soft.  Powder Bowl has a lot of avy debris and there's still plenty of snow up high to descend into the bowl.  The skiing was pleasant on skier right of Debbies Gold with an inch or so ski penetration.  Fat skis made the journey very pleasant. The lower face is melting fast but the snow pack seems very healthy above the face.
Hi Zap,

What would you recommend @ Alpental for best experience tomorrow?

I mean runs and skiing time window

Thank you!
Ivo

Timing really depends on the overnight temperatures.  I found the front side runs receive less direct sun exposure so the snow stays firmer longer.  With the snow surface being slightly suncupped, I find that skiing areas where others have skimmed the surface leaves a smoother surface to ski.  Somewhat of a crude snow grooming surface.  FWIW, the snow surrface on the Muir snow field in Joedaker's photo's looked wonderful today.

Thanks!

Ah, Muir is a tad further but I may reconsider

Cheers
Ivo
