Dave, Victor, Joe and I set off in the lingering fog Sunday late morning to check out the Twin Lakes Couloir aka, The Zipper.

The base of the coloir had some scattered debris that was easily navigated having not been frozen, although there was quite a bit of lacking coverage and twigs poked through looking to be sprouting as if spring.

We skinned until the slope narrowed such that kicking steps seemed most efficient.  A small cornice had to be climbed over to reach the summit.  Much to our surprise the fog lifted enough for us to see down to the partially melted lake 1700 feet below.

The snow consistency was more or less mashed potatoes below the first 100 feet or so.  The total distance was 11 miles and we reached the car at 7:00 p.m. 8 hours after we began.

It was the first or second tour of the season for most of us and we were happy to stretch our legs and find some solitude and a worthy tour amidst the fog.

Wait...I thought it was 14 miles roundtrip, even for those that cheated?  ::)
