This was a great and highly scenic point to point tour that covered a large swath of the east side of Mt Hood and explored some neat ski terrain.
To understand what we did you might want to start by first looking at the GPS topo overlay (turnoff your browser's auto-resize to view this in full):
 minutes to the Tilly Jane snowpark. We skinned up the Tilly Jane trail to Tie in Rock on Cooper Spur. The day had started without a cloud in the sky making us glee for mid-winter corn but dark high-level clouds built above as the day progressed. I made the foolish remark a few clouds would make for better photo light, but these clouds obscured all of the light. From Tie In Rock we descended firm snow onto the Newton Clark Glacier, schussed across the glacier and descended down the skier's left gully at the head of Newton Clark canyon. Before descending we visually scouted the gully making sure it'd go as we didn't know exactly what to expect being our first time skiing this. The gully was excellent. The snow was corn, the terrain was very even in pitch and the gully was relatively long for this elevation on Hood. We schussed across the frozen canyon floor, hoped on the elk meadows trail then plodded and poled back to HRM. <br><br>This tour is one of the finest mid-elevation alpine tours I've done on Mt Hood--and I don't mean that lightly. Cool idea for a tour. It's hard to not point the skis down newton/superbowl when traversing across that terrain!
